360waves, 12 weeks

Progress report.

C’mon, you should know me by now.

Sooooooo , I have been slacking in the waves department due to work & traveling. Not to mention leaving important items such as durags, brushes & waves grease all over the United States while traveling ๐Ÿ™„

Anyways, every second is a second chance.

So it’s been almost 3 months since the big chop and the start of this amazing journey. Here I am 3 months and several hours of brushing later. ๐Ÿ˜Ž I think I am doing pretty good.

Most recently trying to get back in track I’ve been using 3 different methods to try and continue making gains.

Connection Training.
I mixed 2 methods I picked up from fellow YouTubers. Click here: https://youtu.be/M36n07QXoRA to watch a video about my plastic bag/connection training.

COMPLETE brush sessions
Yes. COMPLETE brush sessions. Meaning 30 continuous minutes of brushing with different texture brushes. 10 minutes with a hard brush. 10 minutes with a medium brush. 10 minutes with a soft. At least twice a day, usually once after peel back in the morning and before the durag at night.

Combing my waves.
This method is somewhat still new to me and honestly I need to work on it to perfect it. But this method is helpful for weak sides, missed connections and stretching tight waves for corse hair wavers. This method is best during 4+ weeks into a wolf. The more growth the better. Combing against the grain then combing with the grain followed by a hard brush session. Seems simple, but I have did some damage the first few attempts. I personally do NOT recommend this method for novice or beginner wavers.

I still have a lot of gains to achieve and several hours of repair brushing sessions because I’m lazy and forgetful. But still spinning my guy.

Stay wavey , brushers.

No Shave November

Yes, it’s that time of year again.

Most people only know of “No Shave November” as a month of growing a scruffy beard or not having to go to the barbershop for a month. Well I’m here to remind you of it’s true purpose.

First let me say to all those who lost a love one to cancer I am sorry for your lost. And to all those fighting the battle with cancer be strong, fight long and never give up.

No Shave November is to bring awareness to all those battling cancer. During the month of November you are suppose to refrain from your normal haircare routines(not limited by haircuts btw). Then at the end of the month donating the money you would have used for haircuts and hair products to a cancer institution of your choice. Also allowing to grow your hair wild, free & untamed for those going through chemotherapy and suffering from hair loss, since they cannot grow hair like they could before undergoing treatment. Lastly, going from a normally clean shaven individual to someone who desperately needs a barber is bound to draw questions. Allowing the supporting individual to spread awareness by explaining exactly what “No Shave November” is and stands for. It is more than just growing a beard or skipping the barber chair for 4 weeks.

Too often I see Tguys and OneGender guys boast about their beard gains but not acknowledging those fighting for their lives in a battle with cancer or paying respect to those who lost their battle. It upsets me that most of these men don’t know why “No Shave November” was started and fall into the band wagon and just “stop shaving for a month”.

Please stop making this a fad, do your research, and support the cause wholeheartedly.

And yes I am participating in No Shave November ๐Ÿ˜Š #FuckCancer

360 fail; BUT, bounce backย

So basically for the last 4 weeks I have have no gains and no training. My hair has basically been doing what ever it wants like it ain’t got no damn home training..๐Ÿ˜’

BUT..   NO MORE!

I have all of my necessary things  (now) needed to train and maintain my 360 waves. I have come too far to give up now.

So now I get to see how long it take for my hair to bounce back. I’m assuming 14 – 21 days because I want to believe it wasn’t that much damage and it can be undone relatively easily.

Texture is obedient with the right amount of supervision… Kinda like me ๐Ÿ˜Š

See my recap video of my first 30 days of my journey

So it’s time for some ultimate training. I’m talking hand cramps and carpel tunnel. Tender scalps & worn out brushes. 2x the training, 4x the brush sessions. Do I here a 14 day brushing montage???๐Ÿค”

Brush with me , stay wavey.

๐Ÿ’FAN APPRECIATION GIVE AWAYS !!!

Hey readers, welcome back !!
Today I am here to talk about the FAN APPRECIATION GIVE AWAYS I will be doing every weekend for the month November !!!

I am hosting this via my YouTube channel in celebration and gratitude of all the love and support I have received from my fans since my channel debuted back in late August.

Here’s my most recent video in case you might have missed it:

I wasn’t expecting the amount of people I would reach & would actually be interested and definitely never would have thought I would have this much support and such awesome fans.

600+ views & 60+ subscribers !!!!

You all are awesome and I appreciate everyone ๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿค—๐Ÿ’.

Soooo… to show my appreciation I am giving a #IAmIman T-shirt (with my cool new custom made logo) to an awesome fan once a week, every week in November.

To enter into the give away all you have to do is share the official trailer of my YouTube channel

Click here: … https://youtu.be/ANbg_-Gbr8c … to be brought to the trailer

Multiple entries are allowed with a maximum daily entree of three(3).

You can share the video on many different social platforms, even ones I am not currently on.

I am trying to make these giveaways as simple and user friendly as possible while making in accessible to my fans on every social site. However this is my first give away so please continue to bare with me.

Here is a few ways to share the trailer

Facebook:  https://www.facebook.com/imanking

I will try my best to keep in towards the top of my timeline so you can easily find it. Simply find the public status advertising “FAN APPRECIATION GIVE AWAYS” click share , write post, and then tag my facebook account Iman King.

Twitter: https://www.twitter.com/iman_da_god

Probably the easiest way to share and enter the give away. Retweet my current pinned tweet for an entree. Retweet the retweet for multiple entrees. Too bad nobody is on Twitter these days ๐Ÿคฃ

Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/iman.da.god

Not as simple as Facebook but definitely easy to share and tag. Screenshot the photo of the screenshot of the Facebook status advertising about the “FAN APPRECIATION GIVE AWAYS” (sounds complicated, but it’s not) and post it on your Instagram page. Make sure to tag me or use the hashtag #IamIman. **Remember if your page is private I won’t receive the tag or be able to search the hash tag.

Snapchat – AMOSC: selfmadekris

This may be the most complicated way to enter, but I don’t want to leave my Snapchat fans out. So you can screenshot any advertising from any social platforms (Snapchat included) and post on your story, then take a screenshot of your story and snapchat it to me

And of course to my readers…. You basically have all of those options to choose from.

Any screenshot of sharing the trailer on media sites not mentioned above are still valid but it is only one entree per day. Sorry but this is because I don’t have a way to verify entree on platforms I do not have and I feel like that’s not fair to everyone else.

If you have problems trying to share for a chance to win please let me know on the specific platform you are trying to share and I’ll fix it so it is available. Help me make this run as smooth as possible.

If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to ask.

Good luck everyone ๐Ÿคž and thanks again for your support it is greatly appreciated ๐Ÿ˜Š.

Best hair cut EVER !!!

And then I fucked it up…๐Ÿ™„

So for the weekend of the Philly Trans March as you may or may not know did not go as planned. Among other things that went wrong I totally wrong I completely missed my non-english speaking barber in the Bronx. So I assumed the worse I would have to get a rush cut from some unknown barber some where in Philly.

But here comes the bro to save the day! I was able to get one of the best hair cuts of my adult life. Shout outs to “Marley, da barber”. Ever had a cut so good and so relaxing that you start falling alseep and wake up looking and feeling like a brand new man. Cheeeezus Crice! Ooweee โœŠ He hooked up the jacked lining that I got from my no Bueno barber.
But….. Then I fucked it up.

So of course the madness an chaos continued throughout the weekend and well into the week. “How could I possibly make this trip any worse?”… Oh I know I’ll leave not only my durag but my hard brush and “ol reliable”
All I had was a new soft brush I had bought since it was my second official haircut. The Titan # keep me fresh all but 4 days. And not being able to protect my waves at night made me not want to brush at all..

Which by day 7 I didn’t ๐Ÿ˜ญ

So what was a perfect opportunity for gains turned into the waste of a perfect cut. Again I am so disappointed in myself. But in my defense managing work, relationships, self care, money, & social image is an unfamiliar task.

I am now being proactive and will probably take the initiative to self manage my hair in between cuts. This most likely will include several different fails that I will regrettably upload to YouTube at a later date.

Iman’s Idea for this week:

Have extra brushes and back up durags or wave caps to avoid unexpected interruptions in training and maintenance.

Thanks for waving with me, stay wet.

Journey to 360s The first 14days

Day 1 August 8, 2017

Sooo,
Yea ๐Ÿคท๐Ÿพโ€โ™‚๏ธ sporadic impulsive Kris has done it yet again ๐Ÿคฆ๐Ÿพโ€โ™‚๏ธ

Today was the big chop. I know I said I was going to wait until my birthday but no better time than the present.

Went to a lil barber shop in the duck off of Queensbridge projects. This was my second time at this particular shop and ironically I got the same barber that gave my manbun’s last lining. (R.I.P.)

Within hours of finalizing my decision I was in the barber shop picking my hair out for the last time, and before I knew it I was in the chair. Knee jerk reaction would be putting it lightly.

Just a month shy of my year mark of my last big chop….๐Ÿ˜ญ

Of course there is the instant regret as the barber scalps you, then there is the remorse when you stand up out the chair and finally the grieving the morning of the day after…..

Day 2 โœŒ๐Ÿพ

Ahhh yes the morning after …. ๐Ÿ™„ Well there is no use crying over spilt milk. So after being overly dramatic and saying “I miss my hair๐Ÿ˜ฉ” 4,389,601,725 times I seem to have gotten over it.

Now the fun part can begin; brushing. Hours and hours of tedious brushing. Cause if it’s one thing I gathered from all my intel on acquiring 360 waves the key element is BRUSHING.

So a morning routine to begin with sounds simple enough. Wake up, peel off durag, wet brush, brush session; easy enough.

Hmmm ..๐Ÿค” but what brush is best for me

I wouldn’t exactly say I’m “cheap” but I do despise purchasing a non returnable item and it ends up being wrong.

So what do we do? Test drive!

Day 3

This brush is too hard.

Day 4

This brush feels nice, but I think it’s too soft.

Day 5

Sigh ๐Ÿ˜” maybe I should try a different approach. Let’s not forget it’s been almost a year since the top part of my head has got this much action. So let’s take a step back and start looking at other important hair care product necessities.

Wave grease, shampoo & condition, permanent barber… So for now let’s just leave this durag on and hope no one notices how oddly shaped my head is.

However let’s also take a moment to realize that this is a big step and a huge journey that I am about to embark on. Look past the “take your rag off” , “what’s your cut look like” , “oh you cut your manbun/ponytail” and really come to terms with the fact that this is my hair for the next 9-12 months.

Day 6

Had my first wash since my scalping. Felt good. However the following brush session did not. Note: Hard brush is not a recommendation during the first week.

Did a little more research on what type of marvelous hair goodies I will need for this journey. Window shopped the hair stores around the neighborhoods I most frequently visit.

Ive come up with my own little night routine. Which is actually a mixture of methods I’ve learned about and a little of what I feel is right for my hair.

I’ve decided to do a brush session followed by the “plastic bag” method then putting my rag on.
Haven’t use any products yet still letting my scalp enjoy the clean pores and fresh air.

Did approximately a total of 3 brush sessions over the course of today. As well as letting them breath for 2 hours a day. And beginning my night routine.

Starting to feel like a “Waver”.

Week 2

It’s officially been a week… and my mood on all this is slightly changing. I also think I’m finally over my hair ๐Ÿ˜ญ. Either that or I’m stoked because I’ve located my crown, or because I stuck to something an entire week.

So a lot of new things happened in the past week and I’ve learned a little. Most importantly a hard brush is not my friend. I still need to gather more information but I believe I am a “corse hair waver”. I’ve learned what some of my weak points are in my routine. And I brush my hair approximately 2hrs a day now.

Couple baby shadow waves here n there. You can see them when I brush if the lighting is good and you catch me at a certain angle. Mostly on my right side and my top prolly due to the fact that I’m right handed and that’s the areas I hit the hardest during my brush sessions. Common problem easy fix. Trying to really set my crown is more difficult then it seems. It’s like the more I brush to obtain the perfect eye the more confusion I cause ๐Ÿคท๐Ÿพโ€โ™‚๏ธ. I suppose I’ll figure it out as time progresses.

It takes 14 days to build a habit; 1 week down, one to go.

Hello wavers, welcome welcome.

Soooo, now that I have started my waves process why not blog about it.

Let’s make this short story relatively shorter; in case you haven’t heard the man bun is dead. R.I.P.

I scalped my entire head to a 1 no guard with a nice taper. And thus began my journey to 360 waves…

Do’s , Don’t’s & probably shouldn’t’s. With a mixture of trial & errors and some habits & methods learned from veteran wavers I am starting to find my wave. Ha ha. Get it? 360 wave humor.

Within the first couple weeks as a new waver I distinctively remember the 2 major components I needed for my journey to 360s. A decent brush and a routine. Without a brush it is pointless to have a routine. What good is it to brush if you don’t have a routine.

Will you see results in 2-3 weeks ? ๐Ÿคท๐Ÿพโ€โ™‚๏ธ I don’t know. But I did. I really put dedication into my brush sessions and kept a decent routine. Can’t give any shout outs to any particular product because for the most part I’ve been letting my roots catch some air.

After week one I had visible what I like to call “ghost waves”. Something you might see on someone who has just recently scalped their waves. Or a novice waver after some heavy grease and a deep brush session.

After week 2 I earned my ripples. At first just on my strong side , so I made it a point to work on my weak points and adjust my brush techniques. So now I am just shy of full blown 360 ripples missing the majority of the top of my head.

INTENSE BRUSHINGGGGG !!!

I enjoy this hair journey slightly more than the man bun (no shade, true tea) maybe because it’s just a whole lot of mindless brushing. Easy as pie. Minus the hand cramps once in a while.

Personally I believe the first 3 weeks are crucial to the entire process for a few reasons. It takes 14 days or 2 weeks to build a habit. If you can’t find a rhythm to build your brush habit this may not be a hobby for you. Also the first 3 weeks especially if you started from a freshย scalp or had no type of wave pattern at all; you get the time to learn your hair. Everyone’s hair is different you should know your hair like the back of your hand.

So my things to remember:
Have a decent brush. Stick to an easy to follow routine. Dedicated brushing. Get to know your hair and find your rhythm.
